[ Sebastián Vives ]

I am a Colombian filmmaker based in Toronto whose work explores identity, migration, and belonging through character-driven storytelling. I was raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, where I was deeply influenced by the emotional expressiveness and cultural vibrancy of Caribbean and Latin American culture. Since immigrating to Canada, my work examines the tension between cultural heritage and how it evolves through the immigrant experience.​

 

My goal for my next projects is to contribute to expanding Latino representation within Canada’s film landscape by telling stories that are culturally specific yet universally resonant. Through my films, I explore how individuals negotiate identity, ambition, and belonging while navigating the pressures of building a life in a new country.
